South Australian regional agents can expect to receive greater support from the state’s governing body, the Real Estate Institute of South Australia's (REISA) newly appointed president, Greg Moulton, has said.
“I will like to strengthen the REISA’s ties with regional agents,” Mr Moulton told Real Estate Business.
“We must acknowledge that their needs and wants are different to metro agents and we need to adjust our focus to meet their demands.”
Mr Moulton, also the chief executive of Brock Harcourts South Australia, was welcomed as the REISA’s new president at the annual general meeting (AGM) late last month after serving on the group’s board for three years.
“My commitment to the membership as president is to ensure that REISA provides leadership on key industry issues and is a strong voice for housing in South Australia and of course the impact of national licensing,” Mr Moulton said.
National licensing of real estate agents is expected to come into effect in July next year.
“REISA does support the implementation of national licensing as long as it does not affect the high standards we strive to uphold,” he said.
“South Australia has the strictest requirements when it comes to industry training and qualification and we feel that this is something we should preserve. I will not allow these standards and requirements to be dragged down to the lowest common denominator.”
Moreover, the REISA will have a core focus on the growing issue of housing affordability and excessive house and land taxes pushing, which is forcing many potential home buyers to remain on the sidelines.
“I will have a strong focus on housing affordability," Mr Moulton told Real estate Business.
“I want to work with the RIESA to ensure that this issue is addressed and we remain on the state government’s radar.”
At the AGM, Mr Ted Piteo was elected as the vice-president. The two board director vacancies were filled by Michael Brock (re-elected) and Christine Bertram.
Former REISA president Greg Nybo will remain on the board as the immediate past president.
