While many real estate professionals may ‘overlook’ or ‘underrate’ Darwin, one of the industry’s most prestigious events should bring the city much needed attention next year.
For the first time in seven years, the 2012 Real Estate Institute of Australia’s (REIA) Awards for Excellence will be held in Darwin on 22 March, at the Darwin Convention Centre.
May Dunlop, sales associate for Darwin-based agency One Real Estate, and 2010 REIA Sales Person of the Year, said having the REIA Awards for Excellence in Darwin in March next year signifies the state’s growth, and the real estate talent that is often overshadowed by the other states.
“Darwin really is a growing city that has some of the most underrated talent across the country,” Ms Dunlop told Real Estate Business.
“I think the fact that the awards are returning to Darwin highlights the city’s growth and future potential. However, it not only compliments the city but also the amazingly talented and hardworking agents that call Darwin home.”
Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) residential salesperson of the year in 2011, and director at Fletchers Canterbury, Tim Heavyside, is in the running to pick up back-to-back REIA salesperson of the year awards.
“It will be a true honour to be awarded the REIA residential salesperson of year for the second consecutive year,” Mr Heavyside said.
As a three time REIV award winner and last year’s REIA salesperson of the year, Mr Heavyside said success lies in an agent’s ability to maintain a high level of drive and enthusiasm all year round.
“I certainly believe the way an agent carries themselves as well as their professionalism will bring them success. But for me I think a lot of my success has stemmed from my drive to be successful,” Mr Heavyside said.
“If you focus all your attention each day on being successful, then you will be. Some people have a high level of energy and enthusiasm when they work but they don’t maintain it. You need to remained focussed on the job and have a passion for everything you do.”
