A major Tasmanian real estate agency will slash 27 jobs and get rid of its sales division next month, according to a report.

George Self Property will cull its three offices in Hobart, Lauderdale and Bellerive, but will continue operating its property management division, as reported by themercury.com.au.

According to the company's website, George Self, the director of George Self Property, began his career in real estate in 1999. He started the agency in 2006.

At the same time, an agent who worked as an independent sub-contractor for George Self Property has joined Australia’s largest property group, Ray White, to launch a new real estate office, Ray White Ant Manton Property.

The new office will service all areas of Hobart and surrounding suburbs.

"Starting a new business that melds local professionals with the largest real estate group in Australia and New Zealand is a gesture of confidence by both parties in the local property market and in my team," principal, Ant Manton, said.

Mr Manton told Real Estate Business he had confidence in the viability of the Hobart property market, although he admitted times were "challenging".

"There is a lot of negative perception of the market, but there is still good property being bought and sold, with good prices achieved," he said.
