‘Red tape’ is set to be slashed in Queensland, yet the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) isn’t exactly sure what this means for its members.
“While we welcome any commitment to cutting red tape, there needs to be more to it than just politically-aware rhetoric,” REIQ CEO Anton Kardash said.
“The REIQ has long lobbied for the simplification of the paperwork and statutory requirements which impact and regulate our industry.”
The promise to cut red tape, which was made by the Liberal National Party (LNP) yesterday, needs to be followed by a clear and concise action plan, the REIQ said.
“A clear action plan to simplify the processes associated with selling residential property must be instigated by whoever forms government and the REIQ will be available to assist in the development of this.”
The REIQ said the LNP’s plan to cut payroll tax will be of benefit to many REIQ accredited agencies given the vast majority of our members are small to medium-sized businesses.
The LNP’s policy announcement comes not long after Premier Anna Bligh announced a push to reduce the number of documents required to sell a house in the state.
The LNP’s announcement comes ahead of the March 24 Queensland state election, with polls suggesting Premier Bligh will lose power to the LNP opposition.
