Property managers looking for a change may want to consider heading to the staff-starved Top End, the head of the Real Estate Institute of the Northern Territory (REINT) said.

“I’ve had at least four firms over the past couple of weeks looking for high quality property management staff, so there is a real demand for property managers up here,” Quentin Killian, CEO at the REINT, told Real Estate Business.

Fresh from hosting the recent REIA Awards of Excellence, Mr Killian said local principals were finding it tough to locate good quality property managers.

“Property management is an area where you do need a very special sort of person,” he said.

“They have to be a real people person, they have to be a mixture of analytical and lateral thinking, they have to be able to put things in boxes and at the same time they need to be able to see the bigger picture. It’s a very stressful job.”

He said opportunities abound for property managers seeking new challenges.

“If there are property managers and they’re struggling down South, and they want to come up to the warm climate, give me a call,” he said.

“We can help put them in touch with people.”

Mr Killian said the REIA awards were warmly received by the 400 attendees.

“I’ve had absolutely amazing feedback,” he said. “Everybody was really pleased with the night. They thought it was great to come to Darwin and experience what we had, and they really did enjoy the show that we put on.”

“The quality of entrants was phenomenal,” Mr Killian continued.

“We didn’t win an award for the Territory but the standard we were up against was amazing. It really shows the professionalism in the real estate industry, and how hard these people are trying.”
