Two Australian adventurers who skied more than 2,000km across Antarctica will headline the next Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) annual property management conference.

James Castrission and Justin Jones will join a host of other speakers, including the Queensland Police Service, to speak at this year’s event, which will be themed ‘Survive and Thrive’.

It’s a theme Mr Jones knows plenty about.

“We had to break our Antarctic expedition down into three sections,” he said.

“The first month was pure survival, the second month was sustainability, and the third month was the push, where we left nothing in the tank. It was only by sticking to this game plan and weathering the storm at the start that we were able to complete this world-first expedition down in Antarctica.

"In the first month, Antarctica threw its absolute worst at us. Blizzards, white-outs, crevasses, two feet of soft snow, minus 30-degree temperatures... all that while trying to drag 160kg sleds. It was all we could do just to survive out there. Luckily as time went on the conditions improved and we were able to capitalise on the change on the return journey

"In a place like Antarctica, you can't force the conditions to change. The only thing you can do is try and survive and be ready to pounce when the elements became more favourable."

The REIQ property management conference is on Friday 20 April 2012 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
