The gloves are on. Quite literally, in the case of two Ray White Queensland-based agents who are on the fight card for a charity boxing event to be held this weekend.
In one corner will stand Ray White Paddington’s Matt Lancashire, who tips the scales as one of Ray White’s real estate sales heavyweights. Mr Lancashire, who has finished in Ray White’s top one per cent of international salespersons in 2010 and 2011, is currently Ray White’s number two performer nationally.
Mr Lancashire - or Matt ‘Lights Out’ Lancashire as he’ll be referred to on the night - told Real Estate Business the fight, which will be his first in the ring, was an idea that was hatched at his local gym.
“We have a whole mix of people at our gym,” he said of the Corporate Boxing Challenge, to be held at Fortitude Boxing Stadium on April 21.
“It's just something to get the blood pumping for people who are a little too used to wearing suits.”
In another corner – but, thankfully not the one opposite him, Mr Lancashire was quick to add – is another Ray White Paddington sales agent, Herman ‘The Hunter’ Hunt.
“He is 130kg and would eat me alive,” Mr Lancashire said.
“I was sparring with him the other day, and I wouldn’t want to be in the other guy’s shoes.
“I haven’t met my opponent [“Super” Darren Hooper] just yet, and I don’t really want to. I’ve watched him very closely though. I’ll take him out for a drink after the fight, but until then…”
After training for two years at the local gym, Matt says it is a good chance to do something for the local community.
“The money we raise will go toward Beyond Blue and to the local community centre in New Farm [Brisbane].
“I will be donating and 'world renowned' auctioneer Haesley Cush will be auctioning off a signed Qantas Wallabies Jersey," he continued.
The night will consist of eight fights, with each involving three two-minute rounds. For more information about the event, please click here.
