Technology and social media are likely to be key issues addressed at the upcoming REBarcamp event, which will be held immediately following AREC on the Gold Coast later this month.

“Web 2.0, the place that Facebook fits inside a business, the value of a blog, the importance of a social media policy inside a business, how to create a great digital footprint, how to cost effectively incorporate video inside a business are all critical issues for the real estate business owner of today,” Peter Brewer, general manager at Inlinemedia Biz and one of the event organisers, told Real Estate Business.

“Our discussion groups at REBarcamp tend to cover these and other pressing issues for the agent of today.”

Mr Brewer said the industry was embracing the idea of brand agnostic learning and sharing, and where attendees get to set the agenda, which are the hallmarks of REBarcamp events.

“We're excited that the REBarcamp movement is gaining legs across the country,” he said. “With successful events already conducted in Sydney, Perth and Brisbane we've now set our sights on the Gold Coast.”

Topics covered at the most recent event, held in Brisbane late last year, included social media and a shift back to the fundamentals of real estate.

“We have managed in the real estate industry - and I’ve been around this [industry for] 34 years - to complicate a really simple business,” Mr Brewer said in December, immediately following the Brisbane event. “Find a buyer, find a seller, put them together.”

“It’s ‘nice’ to see a tight market like this where people get back to basics.”

Registration to the Gold Coast event, which is being held on May 29 at Mermaid Beach Surf Life Saving Club, is free and essential, and can be made by clicking here.
