A former construction worker and now Canberra-based agent has beaten 65 other industry professionals to win $3,500 worth of free training from real estate sales performance coach, Josh Phegan.
Alec Brown, of Peter Blackshaw Real Estate, who has been an agent for 18 months, beat a strong field of applicants to secure the ‘Apprentice’ award title, Josh Phegan said.
“I see the Apprentice campaign as a chance to give back to the industry and also to give one eager estate agent a chance to really transform their career,” Mr Phegan said.
“I am really keen to work with someone who is eager to learn, open to change and, in a sense, going against the same old way of doing things.”
The contest, which was run over a six-week period, saw contestants upload a video or write a short public piece as to why they should be the Josh Phegan Apprentice. Then they had to submit a private application detailing their numbers, plans, goals, amongst other items.
The 65 applicants were then reduced to five by a judging panel which consisted of April Forbes (from Josh Phegan), Josh Phegan, Damien Cooley from Cooley Auctions and Matt Hayson, from Sydney-based Cobden and Hayson.
“We selected criteria around professionalism, innovation, desire, hunger and quality of their application,” Mr Phegan told Real Estate Business.
“The top five were then flown to Sydney with all expenses paid. They then had the opportunity to pitch in 15 minutes why they should be selected as the Josh Phegan apprentice by the judging panel.”
Mr Brown said he was looking to "essentially double my business for the next financial year and employ my first assistant”.
According to Mr Phegan, a former Victoria-based agent who started his training business in 2007, more than 60 per cent of his personal coaching clients generated more than $600,000 in gross fees per annum last year.
“I have been wanting to do something like this Apprentice program for some time,” Mr Phegan said.
“It's been an incredibly humbling experience with over 60 agents putting themselves out there, just past their comfort zone. I'm tremendously proud of every single one of the applicants.”
The prize package includes tickets to Josh’s coaching seminars across Australia, tickets to the 'Real Estate Blue-Print' and 'List Sell Negotiate' master classes, copies of his Rapid Focus 2 and 3 audio training series, four 30 minute one-on-one coaching sessions with Josh and a 12 month subscription to his online coaching program, Josh Phegan membership.
