The rapid rate of technological change is giving some younger agents an edge over their older peers, warns one of Australia’s leading agents aged under 35.
“Our industry is a young person’s industry and what older agents don’t realise is that if they don’t grasp new technology, they will miss the boat,” Chris Gilmour, of All Properties Group in Brisbane, told Real Estate Business ahead of the Young Professionals in Real Estate Conference (YPIRE), to be held early next week in Sydney.
Mr Gilmour, who according to his website has an average days on market of 21, will be presenting at the conference about how to generate leads, run a successful open home and give prospecting tips that are outside the box.
“Simply, I will be talking to agents about how to list and sell more homes,’ he said.
“The mistake I see young agents make is that they are inconsistent.
“In real estate consistency is key to a successful career.”
According to Lyndsey Douglas, YPIRE committee member, the conference is designed to tell the stories from the best in the industry and delivers it to those who aspire to be at the top of their game.
“The whole purpose of the conference is to get together agents in their 20s and early 30s to hear from those who have achieved great success and maintain that success at a young age,” Ms Douglas told Real Estate Business.
“This conference will celebrate and highlight all the different innovations the industry has seen, so attendees can pick and choose what works for them.
“It is not about discounting the old methods but encouraging agents to adapt new technology with old tried and tested techniques they were introduced to by real estate veterans.”
Younger agents still have some way to go, however, based on the average age of those that made Real Estate Business' Top 100 Agents ranking, which was 40.7 years. The average years of experience as a sales agent on the list was 12.8 years.
YPIRE is a two day conference held on Monday, August 13 and Tuesday, August 14 at Crowne Plaza Coogee, in Sydney.
Speakers include Josh Phegan, Jason Andrew, Brian White, Chris Gilmour and Karen Seeto.
