Staff from Richardson & Wrench, a NSW and Qld-based network, recently competed in a running festival as part of the group’s continuing support of the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
“We are firm believers that our role as business people extends to our social contribution and that is expressed in many different ways across the network,” R&W executive director, Andrew Cocks, said.
Mr Cocks, who competed with his wife Allison and daughters Sarah and Laura in the Blackmore’s Sydney Running Festival last month, said the fundraising effort reflected the group’s commitment to playing an active role in the community.
This year Richardson & Wrench embarked upon a new partnership with The Starlight Children’s Foundation, extending across the 100 office-plus network a relationship that has existed with the R&W Sydney eastern suburbs offices since 2005.
Throughout the months of September, October and November, participating offices, identified by the Starlight logo on signboards and brochures, will donate a portion of the commission on every property sale to the Starlight Foundation.
“The relationship with Starlight has evolved over seven years and this year has been embraced by offices across NSW and Queensland,” Mr Cocks continued.
“Not only does it allow us to make a meaningful contribution to Starlight but it gives us a sense of common purpose that binds the hundreds of people who belong to our network.”
R&W’s relationship with Starlight continues a long tradition within the real estate industry for supporting good causes.
In July, a number of Harcourts agents trekked the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea to raise money for Beyond Blue, while Melbourne real estate company Jellis Craig recently competed in The Age Run Melbourne in support of charity partner Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
R&W’s relationship with Starlight began after the daughter of R&W Bondi Beach agent Dasha Goldman suffered a massive brain haemorrhage. Ten-year-old Michaela spent three weeks in a coma. She survived but faced a long period of recovery and rehabilitation, which was supported by Starlight.
Richardson & Wrench franchise manager Jennifer Williamson has been instrumental in developing the relationship with the Starlight Foundation.
“Several of our offices have been closely involved with the Starlight Foundation for many years so we have seen firsthand how their focus on the child produces results,” she said.
“We are delighted that so many of our offices have embraced this initiative which will help Starlight to continue their great work.”
