An annual charity telethon in Western Australia has auctioned a donated property for a record price, according to the selling agency.
The 44-year-old event saw the two-storey, four-bedroom property located in the beachside community of Port Coogee, just a five minute drive from the Fremantle CBD, be sold prior to auction.
“The response we received was overwhelmingly positive with more than three thousand visitors inspecting the home in just five weeks – something which I believe comes down to the quality and location of the property,” said Century 21 Western Australia state manager, Katie Faiello.
“Australand donated a premium block of land, which is ideally positioned within walking distance from the beach and the marina, while In-Vogue designed and built a home that is not only aesthetically appealing, but highly practical as well.”
The charity began in 1968 when a group of senior executives from Channel 7 Perth established Telethon with a 20 hour non-stop program broadcast from the studio, which raised $104,829.
Since its inception, Telethon has raised over $103 million and provided much needed financial assistance to a significant number of charitable organisations, children's hospitals and research/medical facilities in Western Australia.
Several offers were presented prior to auction, which resulted in Telethon accepting a record offer price for the home.
The sale price will be revealed at 12pm on Sunday, November 11, as part of Channel 7 Perth’s live Telethon coverage.
“As has been the case in the previous twenty one years that Century 21 has sold the Telethon Home, our focus in 2012 has been on achieving the highest possible sale price for Telethon – a charity that is very close to the hearts of many people within our organisation and the general public alike,” said Ms Faiello.
