An agent who works a 60 hour week often only uses eight of those hours productively, according to an international business coach and mentor.

Over 250 attendants at the Cooley Auctions and Josh Phegan organised 'List Sell Negotiate' event, held in Sydney earlier this week, heard from prominent management, organisation and motivational specialist, Dr Fred Grosse.

According to Dr Grosse, agents are not spending enough time on dollar productive activities.

“Real estate is a pot of gold, you can all be earning much more than you do right now if you organise your time,” he told the packed room. “Most of you will work eight to 10 hours in a 60 hour week. You might as well do a big Monday and take the rest of the week off.”

Among a list of things agents “waste” their time on were updating social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, responding to emails as they come in and chatting with colleagues at work.

According to Dr Grosse, the best exercise to determine if you are wasting your time is to break your week up into half hour slots.

“Draw a table with each day of the week at the top and then divide it up into 30 minute intervals, including sleeping time,” he explained.

“Write in everything you do over that week, including the smaller things that catch your attention.

“In order to be more dollar productive you should be doing at least three hours of prospecting. If you are not doing that you should be changing your patterns.”

Other speakers at the event included Damien Cooley of Cooley Auctions, Adrian Bo, partner and auctioneer at McGrath Estate Agents Coogee, and industry trainer Josh Phegan.
