An agency that was formed less than two years ago booked a major win at the recent Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) Awards of Excellence.

Gold Coast-based real estate office Harcourts Coastal was awarded the 2013 REIQ Medium Residential Agency of the Year award at the institute’s night of nights, held at the Hilton Brisbane on Saturday night.

Harcourts Coastal managing director Dane Atherton, who won the REIQ Auctioneer of the Year award in 2004, said, “Winning this award is an incredible honour and a fantastic achievement, particularly given our agency was only established in 2011.

“This award is a testament to the hard work our team puts in every day and to the exceptional growth.”

REIQ CEO Anton Kardash said the evening reflected on and recognised the many positive aspects of the real estate profession.

“When the REIQ was formed in 1918, its founding fathers made a commitment to improve the professionalism of those working in real estate,” he said. “Over the ensuing 95 years, the Institute has kept to this original promise. Today we have more than 80 per cent of all real estate agents who choose to be a member of our organisation and who commit to ongoing education and higher standards of business practice.”

During the night, 14 other Queensland-based real estate practitioners were presented with awards.

Laguna Real Estate, located on the Sunshine Coast, was named the REIQ Large Residential Agency of the Year. Principal Olivier Miller told Real Estate Business that the award was a testament to her agency’s achievements during the year.

“Because we’ve been around for 35 years, we just want to get better and better at what we do,” she said. “Having this accolade basically tells our community and our people that we are very serious about what we do.”

Ms Miller said it was a triumphant year for the network, which recently expanded its offices in Queensland and increased its number of staff.
