The number of complaints against real estate agents in NSW fell in 2012, pushing the profession off the regulator's top 10 worst offenders list.
According to NSW Fair Trading, there were 891 complaints against property agents regarding the purchase or sale of a property, down from 923 in 2011.
Real estate agents came tenth on the top ten consumer complaints for 2011 list, but managed to drop off the wall of shame in 2012.
Speaking with Real Estate Business, Fair Trading said while agents fell down the ranking on the back of a surge in complaints against group buying schemes, the profession still deserved a pat on the back for its improved result.
With a total of 4,253 complaints, electrical, electronic, whitegoods and gas appliances came first for the second year running, with used car dealers and group buying coupons coming in second and third, respectively.
House construction, including renovations and additions, came fifth with 1,916 complaints.
Coming in at tenth place was solar panel and hot water systems with 1,099 consumer complaints to Fair Trading.
