Real estate agents - both male and female - are being encouraged by Harcourts Victoria to strap on the stilettos and walk a mile as part of an anti-violence initiative.
Harcourts Victoria CEO Sadhana Smiles said the group will be joining forces with White Ribbon Australia, launching the inaugural Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event.
“As well as demonstrating our commitment against violence, we’ll be displaying our commitment to embracing women in the quintessentially male dominated real estate industry,” she said.
The group is urging both men and women to don a pair of high heels and join the parade as they walk a mile along Southbank Spillway to demonstrate Harcourts’ commitment against violence.
The concept is based on a similar event held in Canada and was adopted by Ms Smiles with her team and the group’s franchise council.
“Unfortunately, violence exists in our workplaces, families, communities and schools, and it is not just physical but verbal and emotional violence,” Ms Smiles said. “In Australia, close to half of all women have experienced violence since the age of 15.”
Ms Smiles said Harcourts is endeavouring to showcase how the company is progressive, bold and decisive by making a public stand as a network against violence of any type.
Harcourts Victoria’s clients, local communities, family and friends are encouraged to join or simply support the inaugural march against violence on 10 May.
