Agents from across Sydney came together last week for a charity golf game which raised $45,000 for disadvantaged youth.

The 2013 Cooley Golf Classic, held at Boonie Doon Golf Club in Pagewood, attracted 118 entrants and Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets (YOTS) charity was presented with a cheque for $45,000 after the event.

Developed and run by Cooley Auctions, the golf classic is an annual fundraising event which is now in its sixth year, having raised a total of $215,000 for the YOTS foundation.

Organiser Damian Cooley told Real Estate Business that the day was a huge success.

“This year our goal was to reach $200,000 collectively over the six golf classics and thanks to the overwhelming support from real estate agents and local businesses in sponsoring holes, donating auction items and participating in the 29 live charity auctions held on the day, we achieved this,” he said.

“Our fundraising event has provided five scholarships over the years, and through my experience in participating in the charity’s Streetwalk program and sitting on the Development Committee I’ve seen the life-changing effects of their important work,” said Mr Cooley.

Mr Cooley told Real Estate Business that the event was attended by agents from across Sydney and from across all networks.

“But the eventual winners were a team from McGrath Estate Agents, who are great supporters of the event,” he said.

Money raised will provide a $12,000 scholarship, offering critical financial support to further the education of a talented student from disadvantaged circumstances.

The remaining $35,000 will go towards helping the foundation support young people who are homeless, drug dependent or recovering from abuse.
