The 2013 Australasian Real Estate Conference (AREC) wrapped up on Monday afternoon, after approximately 2,500 delegates descended on the Gold Coast for the two-day event.

James Tostevin, top ranked agent in Australia, was left struggling for words in a panel session run by trainer Josh Phegan, after he found out he came first in the Real Estate Business Top 100 Agents ranking for 2013.

“I’m a little bit tongue-tied for words at the moment, I had a feeling I’d be in the top ten but to come first is absolutely amazing,” Mr Tostevin told the crowd.

US-based David Knox kicked off the event with his tips on winning more listings, followed by Australian radio personality Alan Jones, who delivered a scathing wrap-up of the economic performance of the country and the current government.

Other speakers on the first day included Tom Panos, senior executive at News Limited and trainer, who spoke about overcoming adversity.

David Knox spoke again at the start of day two, emphasising his ‘superstar selling strategies’ over two hours, followed by John Symond – founder of Aussie Home Loans.

‘Aussie John’ shared stories from his childhood working in the family fruit and vegetable shops, starting a business and rising from the bottom after it failed when the market crashed.

Keynote speaker Chris Gardner, inspiration for the academy-award nominated film The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith, capped off the event on Monday afternoon.
