Agents can now connect with locals in their area at the click of a mouse, thanks to a new feature recently unveiled by award-winning social media site for property Housenet.com.au.

Using the tool, Connect Local, agents can search for and engage with residents, consumers and investors in their postcode without having any prior relationship.

Founder and CEO of Housenet.com.au Darren Moffatt told Real Estate Business it would have huge implications for agents.

“It’s a new way of connecting with people based on where you live and where you want to invest,” he said.

“For example, if you’re an agent in Parramatta and you want to connect with some residents from the local area, you’ll be able to do this on this site.

“Equally, if you’re an investor looking to buy in Melbourne but you’re in Sydney, you’ll be able to dial up the people that live in the suburb of interest and you can interact with them and find out what’s happening on the ground.”

Since its launch in September last year, Housenet.com.au has undergone various changes based on member feedback, surveys and interviews.

“Over the last three to four months we’ve been working intensively and we worked out, we think, what people want. So we’ve relaunched the site as the online home for your home,” Mr Moffatt said.

Other new features on the site include a renovation tool to allow people to manage their projects online, a live property data that aggregates listings from major portals, and a mortgage tool.

Mr Moffatt said membership on the site was now in the thousands with a 50 per cent growth between January and March this year.

This week, the website was named one of Australia’s 100 most innovative products or services in the Anthill magazine SMART 100 Index.

“I’m really thrilled with this accolade,” Mr Moffatt said. “We’ve worked super hard to build an innovation that helps people get better results with property, so it’s great to receive this recognition."
