European investors looking for Australian properties are being lured to South Australia’s wine regions, according to one network.

LJ Hooker South Australia regional manager Rod Adcock said the network’s listings around McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Barossa Valley were proving to be popular on UK-based property site rightmove.co.uk.

“A quarter of searches of our South Australian properties were for homes within a 10-minute drive of wine regions,” he said.

“But amongst the more curious property hunters – those who downloaded several photos from the site  properties around McLaren Vale, the Clare Velley and Barossa Valley actually accounted for 40 per cent of searches.

“Most Australians dream of owning a little hideaway in Bordeaux or the Loire Valley; now it seems Europeans fancy a retreat amongst our vineyards as well.”

According to LJ Hooker Aldinga licensee John McGarry, the interest was not surprising.

"About three or four years ago, there was quite a surge in Brits buying property in the area," said Mr McGarry.

“The wineries around McLaren Vale and Willunga are only 10 minutes from the southern beaches, so that adds to the appeal of the area, along with its affordability."

Mr Adcock added that Australia’s property market was considered a sound investment within the international community.

The interest in Australia’s wine regions has also been found in Western Australia, where LJ Hooker properties at Bridgetown are attracting a high number of searches through rightmove.co.uk.

LJ Hooker has an exclusive partnership with rightmove.co.uk, where it receives an average 13 million visits per month from UK and European residents. It also markets properties to Chinese property investors through a partnership with Juwai.com.
