Leading members of the real estate industry will gather in Sydney this week to discuss the future of real estate.

“The REINSW Industry Summit is an opportunity for our industry’s leaders to have a voice and hear from like-minded professionals,” Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) CEO Tim McKibbin said.

Among those attending the summit are McGrath chief executive John McGrath and CENTURY 21 Australia chairman Charles Tarbey.

“It is rare for real estate agents to get together to discuss issues surrounding the industry,” Mr McGrath said.

“Real estate is a very diverse and competitive industry and to have more than 50 agents gather from across the country to discuss our future is a great step forward that will benefit the profession and therefore the consumer.”

Mr McGrath added that like many other industries, real estate has seen significant change recently.

“The internet has revolutionised the way we do business and it has given consumers access to more information than ever before. Consumer demands and expectations are higher and agents need to understand this and deliver on these expectations,” Mr McGrath said.

“I think the rate of change in the industry and business community will accelerate over the next few years, and as an industry body it is important now for the members of REINSW to come together so we can align ourselves and better support our customers and employees. This is the ideal platform on which to achieve those outcomes.”

Mr Tarbey said he’d be raising his concerns about the housing shortage at the summit.

“The issues surrounding local and state government and the shortage of properties on the market are important to discuss," he said.

“There is too much red tape associated with getting land and developments out of the ground. Reducing the red tape and overbearing bureaucracy would help with the shortage of properties and many other issues within the industry.”

The REINSW Industry Summit will take place on Friday 29 November at the Mercure Sydney Hotel.
