Top agents toughen up

Twenty-one kilometres of mud, 27 military inspired obstacles and 10,000 volts of electricity certainly weren't in the job description, but some of the country’s top agents will do it all in the name of charity.

This Sunday, industry trainer and coach Josh Phegan has gathered five brave agents from across the nation to swap suits for gym gear in the 2014 Tough Mudder on Phillip Island.

After completing the course and raising $24,000 for the Cancer Council in 2013, Mr Phegan has roped in his team to more than double last year’s result to $50,000.

This year’s team includes Mark Lowrey, director of Style Property Brisbane; Matthew Hayson, director of Cobden & Hayson Sydney; top agent and principal of Harris Real Estate Adelaide, Phil Harris; CEO of Biggin & Scott Knox, Adam Flynn; and director of Cooley Auctions Damien Cooley.

“Each year we look around and see how we can help the community. Throughout this process we realised every single one of us here in Australia is actually touched by one of the most significant diseases in the world - cancer,” Mr Phegan said.

“We’re going to be out there, doing it tough and doing our bit to support cancer research and raise awareness.”

Speaking with Real Estate Business, Damien Cooley said he was excited, but very nervous.

“In real estate, a lot of us either neglect or ignore physical activity; it’s very easy to be sucked into the rhythm of ordering fast food on the road or sitting at a desk," he said.

“This year I decided that my number one priority was my health and fitness, and I guess this is going to be a bit of a test to see where I’m at.

“We’ve raised $30,000 so far for a very worthy cause, and I urge everyone to get on board and help us reach our target.”
