Award winner urges industry to lift its game

The simple energy-efficiency changes one agency put in place were so effective they are questioning why no one in the industry is following suit.

That's the view of Krys Tully, principal of First National Real Estate Tully, who said that while she was very happy to win the Energy Efficiency Award at the First National WA awards, she is concerned that many other offices are falling behind.

"We haven’t really put any massive policy changes in place. When my husband came into the office, he really started getting us to make some changes, doing the basic, simple things that most people should be doing - turning off computers and lights when not in use, not using the printer unless it’s vital,” she told Real Estate Business.

"It's also good for the business because it lowers overhead costs."

While the office has plans to install solar panels, Ms Tully said that her office is far from the ideal ‘green’ workplace.

“If we’re the best at it then it really makes me wonder how little effort everyone else is putting in. It really goes to show there’re a lot of offices that aren’t really doing much in this area," she said.

“Further down the track I’d like to move to a paperless office. It’s a pretty scary step - we’ve been operating this way for decades - but it’s the way things are going and I’d love to embrace something like that.”

Overall in the state, First National Real Estate Tully came second in the First National top ten ranking, losing out to Sales Office of the Year First National Margaret River.
