Six South Australian school kids competed in The Schools Auction Idol auctioneering competition last week.
Held at the Art Gallery of South Australia, the students from schools across Adelaide were required to auction a make-believe property, answer questions from interested parties on the floor and sell to the highest bidder.
The youngest contestant was 15 year-old Georgia Musolino, a year 10 student at St Dominic’s Priory College in Adelaide.
She was mentored by Ray White Adelaide principal and auctioneer Brett Pilgrim.
“For the last couple of months I’ve been working with Georgia and it has been incredible to see her progress,” Mr Pilgrim said.
“She’s got a great talent and her scripts took us on a humorous journey. Through her delivery, you could tell she has a love for drama.
“All the contestants should be proud of their achievement – auctioning is not an easy skill to master. Having the ability to stand in front of a crowd of strangers and perform is one thing. Delivering the right emphasis and energy levels at the right times, whilst keeping momentum throughout the auction is another skill altogether.”
This was Mr Pilgrim’s first year with The Schools Auction Idol, which has been running since 2007 and is an initiative of the Society of Auctioneers and Appraisers (SA) Incorporated.
“It’s been a great experience,” he said. “Seeing the development of all the students throughout the competition is uplifting.
“It’s fantastic to think these students could be the future stars of the South Australian real estate industry. The Schools Auction Idol is a great initiative and I’m proud to be involved,” Mr Pilgrim said.
