New South Wales’ top auctioneers battled it out in the NSW finals of the Australasian Real Estate Institutes’ Auctioneering Championships, with only two continuing to the New Zealand grand final.

The event, hosted by Estate Agents Co-operative (EAC) and the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA), saw 11 of NSW’s best auctioneers give it their all.

The winner in this year’s final was Gavin Croft of Bresic Whitney (see him in action in video below), who claimed the title for the second year in a row, with Clarence White (second in action in the video) of McGrath Estate Agents coming runner-up.

“For me it was good to go back to back, and I think probably this year was a little bit more cherished because the competition was much stronger,” Mr Croft told Real Estate Business.

“There is plenty of preparation to do prior [to the championships]. Normally what they do is they give you the property you are going to auction off in Auckland about a week prior, so the critical timing is the week out.

“It is probably fair to say the quality of the New Zealand auctioneers last year was outstanding … this year I would like to think I am certainly in the mix,” he added.

EAC chairman Dale Whittaker said there was an “outstanding” level of competition in the final, with the standard even higher than last year.

“All the competitors should be congratulated on their performances,” he said.

REIA president Peter Bushby, a judge in the competition, said “The cream of NSW’s auctioneers continues to support the Australasian REIs’ Auctioneering Championships with compelling displays of persuasive showmanship, finesse and passion.”

“The excellence of finalists from across the nation will send a message to our friends across the Tasman that we mean business this year,” he said.

Mr Croft and Mr White will now go on to the National Championships to join contestants from Australia and New Zealand at the final event, which is being held in Auckland, New Zealand from 21-23 October 2014.

The contestants in this year's NSW final included:

Clarence White – McGrath Estate Agents
