Winning referrals one photo at a time

Agents who are dab hands at Facebook might be overlooking a social media site with even greater referral potential.

Last month’s Real Estate Connect conference in New York revealed that Pinterest generates more referral traffic for US agents than Google+, LinkedIn and YouTube combined.

Pinterest is a highly visual social media site that allows users to create public boards that they fill with images and commentary.

CoreLogic RP Data senior research analyst Cameron Kusher, who attended the conference, said Pinterest is a good way for Australian agents to boost their profile.

Mr Kusher told Real Estate Business that one obvious step is for agents to ‘pin’ images of well-designed kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and backyards to their boards.

Agents can also use Pinterest to differentiate themselves from local rivals by pinning things like local landmarks and the best local restaurants to their boards, Mr Kusher said.

“The one other thing is pinning the homes you have listed, so people following you can get some sort of idea of what sort of properties you are selling,” he said.

Mr Kusher said Instagram is also a good place for agents to post photos of their listings, which makes them easy to access via their phone or tablet.

“You can just search your hashtag and show it to your clients. It is just showing that you know your local area better than the others,” he said.
