Selling property is much harder than policing, the winner of one franchise group’s rising star award has discovered.
Susan Roser from PRDnationwide was named the group’s Rookie of the Year for 2014 due to her “commitment, determination, loyalty and outstanding sales results”.
The Toowoomba agent joined the industry in December 2013 after spending 24 years in the health sector and 10 years in the police.
Ms Roser said her previous careers taught her valuable communications and negotiating skills – and that, contrary to expectation, being a cop is easier than being an agent.
“With my last two professions, I was given the work and I got a pay packet at the end of the fortnight,” she told Real Estate Business.
“With this job, you have to find your own work and you’re not guaranteed to get paid. It’s the hardest job I’ve ever done, but I absolutely love it.”
Ms Roser said she was attracted to the industry because she’d always had an interest in property and liked the idea of challenging herself in a sales role.
One of the lessons she’s learned is the value of persevering during the inevitable down times.
“You never really know what the industry is like until you start,” she said. “It’s not the case that you get phone calls all the time; it’s not the case that you just open a property and you sell it.”
Meanwhile, PRDnationwide Newcastle was the big winner at the franchise’s annual awards.
For the fifth consecutive year the office claimed the awards for top office, top sales agent (George Rafty) and top-selling principal (Mark Kentwell).
