Two local auctioneers are one step closer to winning a coveted international award after topping their state’s auctioneering titles.
Edward Riley from McGrath Estate Agents and Damien Cooley from Cooley Auctions finished first and second in the NSW heats of the Australasian Auctioneering Championships.
They have now advanced to the national titles, where they will aim to win a place in the Australasian championships contested by Australian and New Zealand auctioneers.
New Zealanders have won the past four Australasian Auctioneering Championships.
The NSW heats also included Clarence White and Joshua Larsen from McGrath Estate Agents, as well as Andrew Cooley and Briannan Crawford from Cooley Auctions.
The other competitors were Gavin Croft from BresicWhitney Estate Agents, Leon Axford from Axford Auctions, Lucas Cannan from Think Real Estate and Will Hampson from My Auctioneer.
Auctioneers were expected to think on their feet as they were confronted with a range of testing questions and unpredictable bids.
Estate Agents Co-operative and the Real Estate Institute of Australia hosted the NSW heats. The national titles will be held in Melbourne in September.
