Raine & Horne aims to become industry’s ‘leading HR innovator’

Raine & Horne has made a significant investment in its recruitment strategy with a key hire and a new program to reconnect with former employees.

The group has appointed experienced recruiter Steve Begg to head its recruitment division.

Mr Begg previously held executive positions at HR firms Randstad, Tanner Menzies and Hamilton James & Bruce. His role will be to help the principals of Raine & Horne’s 300-strong Australian office network source the best real estate talent.

Raine & Horne has also announced that it will develop an alumni network to reconnect with former employees who may have left to pursue other career opportunities.

The group is also building a 10-month cadet training program to attract and train new talent.

Executive chairman Angus Raine said staffing is one of the biggest issues facing Raine & Horne principals.

Mr Raine said that Mr Begg and his team will take the pressure of recruiting away from principals so they can focus on their core business.

“Today, real estate recruitment is more than simply a headhunting activity. It involves having the right training systems, processes, tools and technology in place to secure the best candidates,” he said.

“With 20 years of HR experience under his belt, I’m very excited that Steve, who is an advocate for the use of systems and processes, will help us achieve our aim of being recognised as the real estate industry’s leading HR innovator in two to three years’ time.”

Mr Begg said about 85 per cent of real estate job ads are looking for experienced candidates, so Raine & Horne will look to build relationships with established real estate professionals.

“People also think you put a recruitment advertisement on an online jobs board and you’ll automatically have 100 candidates lined up outside your door, but it doesn't work that way,” he said.
