Western Australia’s peak real estate body has lost two of its most experienced voices following the retirement of its president and a long-time councillor.
Real Estate Institute of Western Australia president David Airey has retired from the council after serving the maximum 12 years allowed by the constitution, including four as president.
Ian Cornell from Professionals Michael Johnson & Co, who was first elected to the governing board in 2004, also stepped down at yesterday’s annual general meeting.
The two new councillors are Rory Trotter from Force Real Estate and Suzanne Brown from Rentwest.
The nine-person council will meet shortly to elect office bearers, including a new president.
Mr Airey said he had enjoyed his experience as president and was leaving REIWA in a strong position.
“Not only has REIWA’s financial position strengthened, but it has developed a new smarter, stronger website for members, increased and improved the range of services provided to members, and runs the biggest and best real estate conferences in the country,” he said.
Mr Airey said he expected his successor to continue his policy of promoting REIWA in the media.
“It’s through this medium that REIWA’s public perception has improved so markedly,” he said.
“This has not gone unnoticed by the state government and opposition, with whom we now enjoy a very strong working relationship, which includes positions for REIWA on the Property Industry Advisory Board and ongoing dialogue with our industry regulator, the Department of Commerce.”
Peter Lawrance from Avanti Residential and Krys Tully from Tully Real Estate were re-elected to the council at yesterday’s annual general meeting.
The other council members are Damian Collins from Momentum Wealth, Hayden Groves from Dethridge Groves, Sarah Kinsey from Ray White Uxcel, Brett Thorp from Thorp Realty and Joe White from JMW Real Estate.
