One of Australia’s major real estate groups has recruited a leading business executive at a “very important stage” of its expansion.

He also spent nine years at Microsoft where he served as vice-president of one of the company’s divisions.

McGrath chairman David Mackay said Mr Petre will give the company a wealth of knowledge in the technology and digital arena.

“We are fortunate that Daniel has agreed to join our board at this very important stage of McGrath’s expansion,” he said.

“He is an outstanding business leader and his ability to understand the influence of technology, and leverage it to the benefit of our customers, will be invaluable to us.”

Chief executive John McGrath said the recruitment of Mr Petre is a strong endorsement of the company’s growth and potential.

“I believe that Daniel will play an important role in helping shape the future direction of McGrath,” he said.

“Technology is a game changer for the industry and the consumer. It is and will continue to be a strong driver in influencing the demographic shifts in business.

“I've known Daniel for many years and respected his ability to bring clarity and new ideas to complex business challenges, and to see the potential and opportunity in new technologies.”
