One of Australia’s real estate institutes has appointed a new president and deputy.

Hayden Groves has been elected as the new president of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia.

Mr Groves, who had been serving as deputy president since October 2013, is also deputy president of the Real Estate Institute of Australia.

He has replaced David Airey, who recently retired from the institute’s governing council after a four-year stint as president.

Mr Groves moved from Victoria to WA in 1993. He began his real estate career as a sales rep with John Dethridge & Co and then acquired DethridgeGroves in 2004.

Mr Groves is also the immediate past president of the Real Estate Employers Federation of Western Australia and has a particular interest in industrial relations.

“It’s clear that while the WA market will be relatively soft for the next year or so, I want to ensure that REIWA members and the general public get the best services and property information they can as they negotiate this uncertain period in the property cycle,” he said.

Meanwhile, Damian Collins from Momentum Wealth has been elected as the institute’s new deputy president.

Joe White from JMW Real Estate was named chair of the finance and risk management committee, while Peter Lawrance from Avanti Residential was nominated to join the committee.
