A find-a-tradie website has released its list of the most expensive trades and their cost per job. If investors need a tradie that specialises in any of these areas, they should be advised to tread carefully in order to avoid being hit with a massive bill.
After analysing 52,000 quotes, ServiceSeeking has released the most expensive niche trades that have seen prices driven up severely because of a lack of demand.
According to ServiceSeeking CEO Jeremy Levitt, these trades will remain pricey for a while for the foreseeable future.
“The few tradies that do work in these industries are never short of work and charge premium prices as customers grow desperate to get them done,” Mr Levitt said.
The top 10 most expensive niche trades in financial year 2016–17 are:
Trade | Average cost per job |
Stonework and masonry | $3,438 |
Staircases | $2,400 |
Cabinetmaking | $1,576 |
Insulation installation | $1,416 |
Carpet laying and installation | $1,199 |
Garages, sheds and carports | $643 |
Glass installation | $560 |
Bathtub resurfacing | $500 |
Tinting and films | $360 |
Fridge repair | $146 |
The reason behind why these trades are being so costly is also due to apprenticeships being at their lowest levels since 2004, according to claims by ServiceSeeking, after analysing data collected by Victoria University’s research body, Mitchell Institute.
