Realestate.com.au has unveiled a new function on 1form that will allow tenants to showcase their pet when applying for rentals.
Tenants, property managers and landlords were surveyed as part of a national study on pet ownership, and the survey found that one in four people have lied about owning a pet when applying for a rental.
The study also found that 48 per cent of property managers were spending considerable time researching animals when reviewing applications, and 93 per cent of property managers believe that landlords fear pets will damage their property.
It also revealed that 27 per cent of people have hidden a pet during an inspection and almost half of all Aussies renting with pets have struggled to find a rental property.
In an effort to help make the market more transparent, realestate.com.au worked closely with customers to create Pet Profiles, which will allow tenants to include a bio and picture of their pet when applying for property.
Realestate.com.au executive manager, rent, Kul Singh said that they wanted to help make the rental process easier for all parties.
“The findings of the research have helped us create a way to make applying for a rental property, and finding the right tenants, easier and hopefully more transparent,” Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh said that after launching the form, over 57,000 people have added pets to their profile.
“Since launching Pet Profiles, we’ve already seen more than 57,500 people add their pet to their 1form application and we’ve had a really positive response from property managers and landlords,” the executive manager said.
