As Australian tenants find themselves priced out of rentals, realestate.com.au has launched a new search filter.

The new affordability filter will allow renters to identify homes that fall under programs such as the National Rental Affordability Scheme.

According to REA Group, the new filter was created in response to the evolving needs of consumers in today’s tight rental market.

Jarrod Scott, REA Group’s general manager of product, placed particular emphasis on addressing high priority customer needs.

“We know that persistent national rental market challenges and rising cost-of-living pressures continue to impact so many Australians,” said Scott.

“For those who are eligible for specific rental affordability schemes, our new affordable housing search filter is designed to ease some of the stress of finding a new home. The filtered search provides more clarity around eligibility for these properties and will ultimately also support agents in receiving applicable enquiries and applications,” he noted.

According to Scott, audience feedback was a crucial element of the recent addition to the site’s repertoire of filters.

“Our whole experience is built on really listening to our consumers, as well as our customers,” Scott said.

“We regularly survey our audience and our customers in a formal sense, but we also welcome their views through informal channels.”

The rental affordability filter follows on from a new accessibility filter that was added to realestate.com.au in April.

The filter, which was designed in partnership with Spinal Life Australia, allows consumers with mobility restrictions to find suitable homes to buy or rent.

“Agents simply need to identify these features in listing copy and the property will automatically appear in a filtered search,” Scott explained.

“We’re always looking for ways to improve the search and filter functions on realestate.com.au. These new updates ensure an inclusive experience for all Australians as we aim to be the place where everyone can find their next home with ease,” he concluded.
