The Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) has issued a statement following new restrictions set out in 10 postcodes.
The Victorian government has announced that in light of rising cases of the coronavirus, 10 Melbourne postcodes with the highest amount of incidents would return to stage 3 restrictions. This includes both businesses and residents.
The 10 postcodes are:
3012: Brooklyn, Kingsville, Maidstone, Tottenham, West Footscray
3021: Albanvale, Kealba, Kings Park, St Albans
3032: Ascotvale, High Point city, Maribyrnong, Travencore
3038: Keilor Downs, Keilor Lodge, Taylors Lakes, Watergardens
3042: Airport West, Keilor Park, Niddrie
3046: Glenroy, Hadfield, Oak Park
3047: Broadmeadows, Dallas, Jacana
3060: Fawkner
3064: Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Mickelham, Roxburgh Park and Calcallow
In response to the news, REIV president Leah Calnan said real estate businesses will adapt their processes by reverting to inspections by appointment and online auctions in Melbourne’s 10 COVID-19 hotspots.
“Any return of restrictions is frustrating for all involved, but the real estate sector is prepared to do what’s required to help curb COVID-19,” Ms Calnan said.
“The REIV is calling on all member agencies in the affected areas to work with buyers, tenants and owners to conduct inspections by appointment and change any auctions scheduled to online methods.
“It is important that all stakeholders in a property transaction work together, co-operatively, to conduct business safely.”
Ms Calnan noted that real estate agencies are well prepared for managing this change, “having already gone through stage 3 restrictions earlier this year without any major setbacks”.
“The REIV will be on hand to assist member agencies in the impacted areas work through the current challenges,” she added.
“We are proud of the resilience and flexibility the real estate sector has shown during the COVID-19 crisis.”
