The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne will receive 100 per cent of proceeds from this year’s Good Friday Appeal (GFA) home auction.
Manning the auction will be Greg Brydon of Ray White, who was recently named senior auctioneer of the year by the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV).
For Mr Brydon, the cause is one that is close to his heart.
In addition to coming from a medical family – Mr Brydon’s mother is a GP and his father is a surgeon – the auctioneer has also recently become a dad to a 16-month-old toddler, an experience that Mr Brydon said has “sharpened his appreciation” of the resources the Royal Children’s Hospital offers to parents.
“As a keen bystander for many years, I’ve watched a number of my peers get the opportunity to call the auction, so I am really excited and humbled to be able to help,” Mr Brydon said.
“To be able to play just a small part on the day is a real honour.”
This year’s property is a four-bedroom home in the outer Melbourne suburb of Tarneit, built by tradespeople and suppliers who freely offered their time and goods on land donated by Villawood Properties.
The seven-star home reportedly includes generous walk-in wardrobes, two bathrooms, an upstairs leisure room, a backyard sports surface and basketball ring, and all furniture and accessories.
For Mr Brydon, the property offers an exciting opportunity to break new records.
“I’m a competitive man, so we’re chasing records,” Mr Brydon said, noting the record $1.082 million sold price reached in 2022.
“I’d love to see a record broken in 2024,” he said.
“This isn’t just about a home, even though there’s a great family house and a whole community ready-made and waiting. It’s also a fantastic cause,” Mr Brydon said.
While Mr Brydon hopes to make a strong sale on the day, he also acknowledged that generating a high-energy atmosphere for onlookers will be equally important. With the GFA House auction and street party historically drawing up to 1,000 people, not all lookers-on will be planning to buy.
“Realistically, I’ll be trying to make it all as fun as possible to all, and that’s including people who might not even be buying,” Mr Brydon said.
“It’s about creating an atmosphere, that’s very important.”
REIV president Jacob Caine also expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating: “REIV auctioneers are humbled and grateful to play a role in this fabulous initiative. Greg has our full support and we will be barracking for a record-breaking result.”
