The number of properties slated to go under the hammer this week has dropped off from the figures seen across the past two weeks.
A total 1,896 homes are scheduled to go to auction over the week ending 21 April 2024, according to CoreLogic.
It’s a -4.1 per cent drop on the 1,978 homes that went under the hammer over the week ending 14 April 2024.
Despite the lull, expectations for activity this week are still much higher than they were over the same period in 2023, when just 1,440 homes were taken to auction.
Sydney is likely to blame for the lower aggregate, with just 627 auctions set to take place, a drop of -23.6 per cent on last week’s activity. Over the same period in 2023, a total 574 auctions took place.
In Melbourne, a total 880 auctions are set to take place. The total is just shy of last week’s 892, a drop of just -1.3 per cent. Activity is 39.9 per cent higher than it was over the same week last year, when 629 homes were up for grabs.
Looking to the smaller auction cities, and Brisbane is set to host 179 auctions, a 73.8 per cent lift in activity week-on-week.
Adelaide is also expecting a mass influx of activity compared to one week ago. Auction numbers are set to more than double to 157 properties on offer, which is a growth figure of 103.9 per cent.
In the ACT, the trend has been bucked, with Canberra reporting just 44 auctions pencilled in, a -42.9 per cent dip in activity.
A total of seven homes are going under the hammer in Perth, while Tasmania has two auctions scheduled in.
According to CoreLogic, the lull in activity over this week is set to be short-lived, with an early view of next week’s auction figures reporting a jump back up to 1,950-plus auctions for the last full week of April.
