A three-day auction event injected some heat into Brisbane’s glacial winter market.
As Australia’s real estate sector grapples with the annual winter slowdown, Place Estate Agents works to combat slowing auction volumes with a three-day campaign.
Over the weekend from 26 July to 28 July, the brand carried out 45 auctions across Brisbane with a clearance rate of 70 per cent.
“With an average of four registered bidders per property and increased market activity, it’s clear opportunities like One Winter Day are invaluable for both sellers and buyers in this exciting ‘property matchmaking’ process,” said chief auctioneer Peter Burgin.
In spite of winter’s poor reputation, Burgin noted that the brand’s winter auctions “often see heightened buyer activity”.
“The combination of Brisbane’s hot market and cold weather creates the perfect storm for achieving exceptional results at auction,” he said.
Managing director Paul Curtain noted that sellers who choose to list in winter can be well-rewarded for the risk.
“Despite perceptions, winter is a fantastic time to sell property in Brisbane. With fewer listings available, it can lead to increased competition and stronger sale prices,” said Curtain.
For those who want their property to stand out from the crowd, winter also gives sellers the perfect opportunity to list without being swamped by competing properties.
Over the three-day event, Place recorded healthy interest in their properties and strong sales results for several listings.
A five-bedroom Queenslander in Paddington sold for $2.7 million, while a contemporary architect-designed home in St Lucia sold for over $1.96 million.
Competition was fierce for several listed properties, with a quaint yellow weatherboard cottage in Ashgrove and a poolside brick home in Kenmore both garnering eight registered bidders each.
For those looking to sell their properties at auction this winter or spring, Burgin urged vendors to “seize this opportunity”.
“Our team is dedicated to navigating sellers through the process, ensuring they achieve maximum value for their properties,” he said.
