I’m going to ask a simple question. It’s one you’ve probably answered countless times throughout your career, but this time I’m hoping you’ll dive a little deeper.
Why are you in real estate?
Nope, this isn’t a place for a cookie cutter reply about a passion for property and people. Instead, I want you to really consider why you get up each morning and come to work in this industry. What is it that you hope it will provide you with and who are you doing it for?
In other words, what is it that drives you? Because when you really know ‘why’ you’re here in this industry, it unlocks motivation, momentum and a whole lot more.
So let’s break it down and look at how knowing your ‘why’ and understanding what drives you sets the stage for success.
It’s personal
If you think about it, ‘why’ you’re in real estate underpins everything. And that ‘why’ will be different for different people.
For some it will be about financial security and their family. For others, it might be about ambition and being the best in a particular field. It might also be about helping people and feeling valued. Perhaps it’s about the money and having things, maybe it’s about leaving a legacy and you might even genuinely love looking at property each and every day.
Chances are, it could be a couple of those reasons that resonate or it maybe it’s something different entirely. The point is, it’s personal. It’s unique to you and there’s no right or wrong response.
But it’s important to ask that question of yourself and honestly answer it, because that answer will assist you in a whole host of ways.
The value of why
The value of why lies in its big picture approach.
Not only does it act as a motivator, providing you with a reason to do what you do, it also helps you chart a course with a clear idea of exactly what you hope to achieve.
And that can be invaluable. A clear path allows you to reverse engineer your success, then create habits and activities to attain your goal. But I’ll come back to that shortly.
Why as a motivator
There’s no better motivator than knowing your why. It is the thing that drives you to get out of bed each morning, and get back up when things get hard.
But the thing about motivation is it can be fleeting. Sometimes it can be hard to maintain that motivation in the face if distraction, fatigue, or defeat.
In other words, motivation can ebb and flow, and if you’re looking to build a solid and stable career, you cannot wait for it to magically show up.
There will be times when even knowing why you’re in this game isn’t enough to keep you excited, inspired and on track.
Here’s the thing, though. Knowing your why also unlocks a failsafe mechanism that ensures you take action even when you don’t feel like it.
How ‘why’ underpins activity
As part of our ongoing training at the Agents’Agency, the first thing we look at is your ‘why’. And we do so for a very good reason.
When you know why you’re here, and what you want to achieve, you can reverse engineer that result and start actively planning for that success.
You can break it down into goals, activities and actions that need to be undertaken on a weekly and even daily basis.
And then, you can implement the systems and structure that ensure you do those activities.
You can build those non-negotiable habits into your daily and weekly calendar so they happen regardless of how motivated, energised or inspired you feel.
Ultimately, your why helps you unlock success.
It can motivate you, but most importantly it can be the catalyst behind the habits that allow you to achieve your dreams.
How we can help
At the Agents’Agency we pride ourselves on providing state of the art training and mentoring that supports agents as they pursue their dreams.
It starts with the why, and we’re on hand to help you plan, set goals and create the non-negotiable habits that ultimately underpin success.
