We’re just a couple of weeks into a new real estate year and it begs the question, how is your 2025 shaping up?
Did you set new goals and reassess your priorities over the Christmas break, and are those ambitions coming to fruition?
The thing is, it’s easy to pop plans on paper while relaxing poolside over summer, but right now in these first few weeks of 2025 it’s make or break time.
These initial weeks of the year are potentially the deciding factor for whether you’ll achieve those goals, or whether you’ll slip back into your comfort zone and those ambitions for the year ahead will fall by the wayside.
So how do you resist the new year’s trap that sees resolution turn to resignation?
Where do you want to be?
Picture this…where do you want to be this time next year? What is it you hope to have achieved both personally and professionally come the turn of calendar page on January 1, 2026?
On the career front, what do you wish to earn? What sort of life do you hope your work will allow you to lead?
That’s the destination we’re aiming for over the next 52 weeks, and now we’re going to break it down into bite sized chunks of monthly, weekly, and daily activities using a little reverse engineering.
Were going to make it achievable, attainable, and simple. Then we’re going to make the habits that underpin that activity non-negotiable.
The past is the past
It doesn’t matter what you achieved in 2024, the past is now the past. Whether you had a record year or failed to meet your own expectations, last year is now in the rear-view mirror.
The only reference it has for you is the learnings it offered, including the things that worked (which you can now double down on) and the habits or activities that you need to avoid moving forward.
Last year is a reference point. Nothing more, nothing less. This year offers the opportunity for something bigger and better, with new energy and new resolve.
New year, new you
On that note, this is the time to reinvent yourself. It’s the chance for a new year and a new you. But the key to achieving this isn’t just in declaring that intent. The actual difference lies in the doing.
As I’ve mentioned time and again, as real estate professionals, we know what we need to do. It’s not rocket science.
If we’ve set our goals and reverse engineer them, we also know exactly how much we need to do and achieve on any given day or during any given week.
From the reference points of the past, we also know precisely what works for us and what doesn’t.
Setting up a successful new year and new you lies in bridging that gap between the ‘knowing’ and the ‘doing’. It’s about embracing non-negotiable positive habits and building them into your day.
Make 2025 your year
It doesn’t matter where interest rates sit or what the market is doing, 2025 could be your year.
Regardless of whether your goal is to write $500k GCI, build a rent roll, become a million-dollar agent, or start your own agency, the next 52 weeks offer the opportunity for you to envisage your own version of success and make it so.
