What got you here, won’t get you there

As real estate agents, we’re no strangers to the concept of change. Markets shift, client expectations evolve, and technological advancements redefine the way we conduct business, writes Manos Findikakis.

Change is everywhere, in fact it’s inevitable. But it’s how we manage and embrace that change that really matters both in the short and long term.

Change is challenging

At this stage, we’re about three weeks into a new year. Chances are you’ve hit the ground running.

There are calls to make, listing presentations to attend, properties to market, and so much more. And I get it, this lengthy to-do list can feel overwhelming. There is so much to do, and so many new things to learn and adopt.

That makes change challenging, particularly when it comes to discerning what exactly to alter and how to master that shift amid all the other distractions in our busy lives.

Business as usual is never a great strategy

Operating under the banner of “business as usual” is not a strategy for long-term success.

The real estate landscape is constantly evolving, and sticking to the “usual” practices will leave us trailing behind.

Our ability to navigate change is not just a necessity. It is a strategic imperative. But let’s be clear; adapting to change isn’t about discarding what works. It’s about refining and expanding our skill set.

We need to always be improving, revising our processes, and reconsidering our strategy. We should be asking, is there a better way?

If the answer to that is yes, it’s time to adapt and change. Sure, that can feel overwhelming, but it is possible if you take it one step at a time – dividing tasks into small chunks.

Start small

Rather than allowing the concept of change to feel insurmountable, start with a small to-do list of improvements you wish to make and chip away at it, day-in, day out.

Also, consider this … What’s the worst that can happen? Don’t succumb to the temptation to catastrophise. If it doesn’t get done today, make sure it does tomorrow, and if something new takes a while to learn, that’s OK.

The only constant in life is change

As the saying goes, “what got us here will not get us there,” and this phrase perfectly encapsulates the essence of change. Change is what will take us to the next level.

We must embrace the idea of adjustment and evolution, and for some people, that means getting out of our comfort zone.

But I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – the comfort zone is where mediocrity lives and it’s not a space where you will enjoy the success you desire or deserve.

Easter is around the corner

Before we know it, we will be preparing for Easter and navigating one of the busiest times of the year.

That makes now the time to focus on the things that need changing.

Sure, it may not feel comfortable or simple to affect that shift. Change is not always easy. In fact, it’s often hard – hard at first, messy in the middle, gorgeous in the end. And so worth it.

So here’s to embracing change. Here’s to stepping beyond the comfort zone and doing what you know needs to be done. So go on, take the time, make the change, and while you’re at it, why not make it extraordinary?
