Delivering “state-of-the-art” services was on top of Ben Doughton’s mind when he launched his business in late 2022. Now 100 days in, he reflects on how tech, coupled with the right network, helped put the boutique agency on Victoria’s map.
Mr Doughton and Melissa Jagger established D&J Property Co in Cranbourne three months ago in partnership with Agents’Agency.
The brand, which currently features a team that includes two sales agents and four expert property managers, along with Ms Jagger as its business manager, specialises in the Clyde, Clyde North, and surrounding suburbs.
Mr Doughton reflected that the new business was designed to tap into their “collective expertise” and to provide clients with top-notch advice and insight when it comes to buying, selling, or renting a property.
The business founder divulged that the newly established team had a “tight-knit” dynamic, thanks to its members having previously worked together at a different brand.
Operating under the principle that “service is consistency and communication”, Mr Doughton stated that tapping into technology was one of the pivotal strategies they employed to better serve their clientele’s needs.
Mr Doughton commented that buyers and renters in the current market wanted instant access to information about the properties in which they are interested, and providing this ensured a “smooth and swift property sale or tenancy”.
“We have video tours, digital brochures, digital signing and full reporting. It all happens online in real time. Everyone knows exactly where they are throughout the sale or rental process and that creates transparency and trust,” he explained.
Currently, the brand promotes its “paperless” solution system, which is made possible by adopting an online platform where clients can book inspections and place offers.
By adopting technology into their operations, Mr Doughton highlighted that “whatever stage of the property journey people are at, it’s about making sure they’re looked after.”
He also noted that being part of a network has helped his team to “focus on what they do best”, by letting them “embrace their own branding, showcase their extensive expertise, and service their market with a boutique offering” while the back of the house processes are taken care of.
“It frees up our time and allows the team to focus on their core job of supporting clients and ensuring they’re looked after,” he commented.
Looking forward, Mr Doughton is planning to expand the D&J Property Co team and believes the brand’s scaffolding provides an advantage: “I think it gives us more credence in the marketplace when it comes to attracting good talent,” he said.
