Pretty much every day there’s a new tech tool promising to make the practice of real estate more efficient, more productive and more streamlined. But when it comes to the 300-plus tech tools now available, which one is the best?
Well, that’s a big question and to be honest, where do you start? Who feels overwhelmed with it all?
The modern agent and the application of new systems and apps definitely make for interesting discussions.
What is the next shiny new toy that promises to be the illusive magic bullet that will do everything for us at the push of a button? Or better still while we sleep?
The value of tech
There is no question that the right technology now plays an important role in real estate.
Collectively and individually, we need to be abreast of what’s new and what can help us to be more productive, efficient, relevant, and offer a higher level of experience for our clients.
Thereafter and as importantly, the adoption of technology should make our role easier and more enjoyable.
It should allow us to connect with people more often and provide that truly personal touch, which cannot be replicated through automation.
But out of all the systems and technologies, if we are talking about the primary goal of growing our business, there is one single tool that is unlikely to be surpassed.
It’s not a complicated one. It’s not even new. But it underpins the most important elements of real estate.
It is … the phone.
Dial it up
Doesn’t matter whether it’s the latest iPhone or a good old landline, the phone is by far the best tech tool ever invented for the salesperson.
It allows instant interaction with past, present and future clients. It creates a personal connection that cannot be replicated over email, in writing or through automation.
It’s a tool that allows you to reach people no matter where they are but offers a human touch where people can hear the nuances of your voice and understand the tone and inflection. It is two-way, it is immediate, and is the next best thing to meeting someone in person.
Other technology and systems might complement it, but there is no tool currently available which supersedes the impact and value of simply picking up the phone and having a genuine discussion with people.
And make no mistake, it’s how and when you use this tool that has the potential to have the greatest impact on your future business.
Pick up the phone
As valuable as the phone is as the greatest ever tech tool in real estate, the way you wield it should not be haphazard.
It should be systemised and regular, backed up by a well-maintained database that offers access to:
- a call list of past clients
- a call list of anniversary dates, be it on sale or appraisal
- a call list of settlement date calls and actions
Of all the activities that we can undertake in this industry, staying connected with those that have used you in the past has the greatest impact on your future business.
So, pick up the phone. Send an updated market report, offer an appraisal, create a personalised SMS or simply call, and say, “Hello.”
The phone is by far the best tech tool ever invented for the salesperson. It’s not that complicated. But to enjoy its power, you need to use it.
I challenge you to make more time to simply pick up the phone as part of your daily and weekly routine, and then enjoy the positive effects this greatest ever tech tool can have.
