An Aussie start-up’s latest innovation could allow property managers to check tenants’ smoke alarms without leaving their desks.
Proptech start-up Sensor Global has partnered up with PropertyMe to create a cutting-edge property inspection software. The firm used IoT (Internet of Things) technology to connect smoke alarms to the cloud, allowing all tests to be run completely online.
The technology, which Sensor Global calls “a revolutionary new automated smoke alarm ecosystem”, is expected to make life easier for property managers and tenants alike.
The company claims that testing times can be set up in advance by the property manager, with tenants pitching into the conversation to ensure the time chosen is convenient for all parties. All communications between property managers and occupants are automated, as are the tests themselves, meaning “no more keys are needed for access”.
In addition, the Sensor alarms will automatically alert the property manager if they have been tampered with, removed, or become obstructed with dust, “allowing property managers to ensure compliance 24/7, 365 days per year”, according to the start-up.
Sarah Dawson, PropertyMe’s chief customer officer, revealed that the alliance with Sensor Global is “an innovative example of how emerging technology can support property managers in new and exciting ways”.
“At PropertyMe, we are focused on delivering tech solutions that bring real value to the day-to-day of property managers. Sensor Global, with a seamless integration with PropertyMe, certainly delivers those everyday efficiencies and a sophisticated safety solution for consumers,” she said.
According to statistics from Fire and Rescue NSW, fire danger remains a significant safety concern for residents of Australian homes. With over half of all fire fatalities occurring in homes with an out-of-order smoke alarm, alarm systems have a vital role in saving lives.
Landlords have a legal obligation to install smoke alarms in every home they lease, but inspecting them can be an organisational nightmare.
Sensor Global CEO and founder Andrew Cox shared that “the PropertyMe integration is one of the easiest and most effective integrations we’ve done to date”.
The new Sensor Global alarm system has reportedly hit the road already. According to the company, the technology is making its way around Australia’s regions as part of a property management training roadshow with property management trainer Julie Collins.
Earlier this spring, Mr Cox hinted that Sensor Global might be cooking up more products for tenant safety, such as water leak detectors, carbon monoxide sensors and gas alarms.
“We have other IoT devices in development because it just doesn’t make sense to send a man in a van constantly with all the work involved for all parties,” he stated.
